Hey guys, this is a thread where you can post underrated games (ie non triple-A titles / titles that weren't hyped very much for their launch / titles that got bad reviews).
Now I'm not sure how many of you actually play games outside of Halo, but I figure why not give this thread a try.
So the whole reason I came up with this thread idea was because of the new game I got. I'll admit I have been appearing offline whenever I play it, but c'mon. Talking to people whilst playing an RPG can REALLY ruin the experience.
Now, before playing this game I had never really heard anyone talk about it. It had mixed/average scores on metacritic. And hell, the only reason I knew about it was from browsing online stores. This game did not get much publication at all and yet I find myself being more drawn to it than I was to Skyrim.
Now don't get me wrong, I love RPG games, but for some reason Skyrim just doesn't grab me. I just thought it was weird how my tastes were so different, that I could like this game I've literally never heard about, yet not be buried in the world of Skyrim.
So basically I'm asking you to post similar games. Give a brief description of why you want to recommend the game, some facts about the game, etc. Similar to what I've done below.
Arcania: Gothic 4
RPG - Third Person
Release Date: Oct 19, 2010
Developer: Spellbound Entertainment
Publisher: JoWooD Entertainment
Description: In this typical medieval RPG you play as a former king, or conqueror, or some shit. But there's a twist and you lose all your shit, or it was a dream or something, so your GF wakes you up. Shit happens, you go fight off the evil, etc.
Reason for recommendation: I think the reason I like this game over Skyrim is because it's linear. In Skyrim I feel like I have a MILLION things to do at once and since I don't know what to do, I just don't play. In Arcania the gameplay is much more focused. Yes you can choose what to do, but you always know exactly where the goal post lies.
Negatives: Personally my only gripe with Arcania is that the framerate seems to be noticeably lower than the average 30fps of Xbox 360 games. If you're not that tech savvy you might not notice it, but it does bug me from time to time.
Here is the gameplay trailer for Arcania's upcoming game+DLC bundle, Arcania - The Complete Tale. This releases on August 30, and is already out on PC.
